I saw Dr. Ashford for the first time yesterday, 04/21/25… this was after waiting a few months to see him. My appt was at 10:15 a.m. I got there on time, and was immediately told by the front desk that he was an hour behind (at 10:15 a.m. mind you).
She apologized, but I figured I’ve waited this long to see him, I’ll wait.
I completed my paperwork electronically before coming in - so I was planning on getting out of there no later than 11 a.m. I’ve been going here for about 2 years now, and up until yesterday I’ve had good experiences.
It was after 12 p.m. before they brought me to a room. Then I waited another 20+ minutes. He came in and I could tell he was a bit frazzled and rushed. He asked me a few questions and made me feel like I was talking too slow. He talked over me a couple times.
Also, no apology from him for the wait. No acknowledgement that I had waited over 2 hours.
I said, “Busy day already, huh?” - no acknowledgement.
I felt a bit disrespected - if I weren’t someone who was on Disability and if I still worked… there’s no way I would have been able to wait that long. I’d lose my job.
Seeing other patients come in after me and leave their appts… all while still sitting in the waiting room - yes it got a bit maddening. I am good at masking it, though.
I’m supposed to line up a follow-up with him after another 12 week round of Urostym treatment (which the first round was extremely beneficial, but it has been several months and my bladder muscles have weakened again).
I think I may just follow-up with the regular urology PA-C (certified physician’s assistant) I’ve been seeing for this. She is punctual and I’ve never had to wait long to see her.
I don’t think I’ll waste my time seeing Dr. Ashford again. This saddens me because it seems like pulling teeth to see an actual MD anymore (which is the nature of U.S. healthcare right now - doctor shortage).
He has spread himself too thin, and I wish I was warned of this before seeing him. Hopefully this comment doesn’t get deleted or buried.

Waste of money. Does expensive therapies without merrit. Doesn't follow up with patients who abruptly stop care. Hides negative reviews. Basically, if you don't need surgery do not go there. Callus guy. Who just sees vagina all day seems a little sight blind to the individual attached ..... do yourself a favor and get a second opinion other than this place.

I liked Dr Ashford. I had a Cystoscopy. It’s a procedure where a small, thin scope is inserted into the Urethra. It was very painful. I thought they could have used a numbing agent prior to the procedure. Also, he was trying to collect a urine sample during this procedure but his nurse had me use the bathroom before they started so there was not enough urine left to collect a proper sample. So now I have to go back on a different day and leave a sample. Which is just inconvenient for me and annoying.
But other than those two minor issues, everyone was very friendly, as I said , I liked Dr Ashford and would recommend MN WOMENS CARE clinic to others.

He's the very best, he just is. He takes time with me and helps me understand the complexity of my issues in a way I can understand. Very funny and focused on what we can do to support my body in a way that helps me get the best out of my life. That's always his end goal. Me living a fulfilling life.

I love how Dr Ashford takes his time and answers my questions and inquiries, no matter how ridiculous. He doesn’t shame me for bringing things I’ve learned on social media to his attention and he has always open to learning and more education himself. If he doesn’t know the answer, he will find it for me. Plus he’s cute with a great sense of humor! You’re after a year after year it’s an experience for me

The office is very inviting clean and comfortable and the staff is always smiling and very professional my experience with Dr.Ashford has been amazing he’s been my doctor for three years.

All I had to do was explain my concerns & what was happening with my body. Dr Melvin Ashford knew exactly what test’s I needed done explained what’s was going on and also helped me with some relief. Everybody’s situation is different and trust me Dr.Melvin Ashford will not give up on you till he finds a answer.

The care is GREAT.... I didn't have to wait long to see the Dr... Dr. Melvin Ashford, is very informtive and thorough.
The staff is really helpful, nice and courteous. I would highly recommend you see for yourself. Make an appointment you won't regret it.

Excellent
Dr. Ashford truly cares about his patients. He listens to you and discusses your options with you. This is nearly impossible to find with other doctors that I have seen. Highly recommend him to those looking for a Urogynegologist.
