What is Urogynecology?
Urogynecology is a medical specialty focused on the care of women with pelvic floor dysfunction – combining aspects of both urology and gynecology. Urogynecology is a sub-specialty of Obstetrics & Gynecology and is formally known as "Urogynecology & Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery" or URPS.
Dr. Ashford is a board-certified in both OB/GYN and Urogynecology. This means he has additional training and experience diagnosing and treating female pelvic disorders – many of which can involve extremely complex and skilled surgical techniques. He was one of the earliest physicians in the Twin Cities to join this elite class of surgeons. In addition, he is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.

What is Cosmetic Reconstructive Surgery?
And why do women consider these treatments?
After childbirth or through natural aging, many women experience changes to the appearance and function of the vaginal area. For some women, these changes can really impact normal life activities: exercise, wearing of tight clothing, sexual gratification, self-esteem and more.
These conditions can usually be diagnosed via a simple, yet thorough pelvic examination and remedied through minimally invasive procedures. Together, these procedures are called "Cosmetic Gynecology." Generally they can be performed with local or regional anesthesia on an out-patient basis. This allows for a fast recovery thus minimizing interference with a woman's lifestyle.
We offer a number of procedures to address these concerns and restore function. Our approach is significantly different from other "cosmetic" surgeries. Here's why:
Dr. Ashford, as a trained Urogynecologist, has a complete understanding of the complexity of a woman's pelvic anatomy. Where some procedures offered by other clinics focus entirely on how things look, Dr. Ashford is also focused on functionality. He combines his high-level surgical skills and knowledge with a keen aesthetic eye.
